The Equipment

Never heard of equipment like kettlebells, gymnastic rings and sandbags being used in a gym? Here’s why these combination of tools are superior for fitness and conditioning:-

Kettlebells

KettlebellsA Kettlebell is a traditional Russian training tool that has been used since the turn of the century to develop full body conditioning and fitness – the goal being the development of a body that is stronger yet lean and athletic.

It has recently been gaining popularity among athletes and celebrities alike as an effective tool for enhancing sport performance and appearance.

Typically, a Kettlebell class will run from 50-60 minutes. Participants will go through joint mobility and dynamic warm-up movements before progressing to a total body workout followed by a cool down and stretch.

These classes are dynamic and fun as many different exercises can be done with the kettlebell.

The benefits of kettlebells are numerous and diverse. Among them:

  • Full body conditioning
  • Big results despite spending less time in the gym
  • Increased resistance to injury
  • Work multiple energy systems simultaneously – aerobic and anaerobic
  • Improved mobility and range of motion
  • Increased strength without increased mass
  • Learning how to produce AND reduce force
  • Enhanced performance in athletics/sports and everyday functioning

Kettlebells are a great way to maximize training time spent in the gym. Kettlebell training delivers great results in a short time. And one will never get bored because of the sheer variety of exercises and training styles that can be done with the kettlebell.

Gymnastic Rings

Gymnastic RingsThese rings allow for hundreds of different exercises and you are really only limited by your imagination. Pullups, dips, pushups and rows are the basic movements for beginners.

But there are dozens of variations on each of those, because the rings can move independently. Additionally, you have tons of gymnastics exercises such as muscle-ups, front levers, back levers, cross, L-sit and many more.

Because the handles rotate independently, they are excellent for building strength and control, while being much easier on your joints than any conventional equipment. Ring training can be scaled to anyone’s level of fitness and strength.

When training with rings, every muscle in the upper body and core will be developed to the extreme. Your shoulders, biceps, triceps and forearms are all involved in just about every action on the rings. Your abs and postural muscles will get a workout unlike anything they’ve ever felt before. The rings are truly the ultimate ab training device. If you need a testimonial, look at a gymnast. Unlike the models in most fitness ads, there is no doubt that gymnasts train with rings.

Sandbags

SandbagsSandbag lifting shares a lot in common with kettlebells with regard to their ability to challenge not only strength, but endurance as well.

A good bag will force the lifter to maneuver and adjust to the awkward weight. This definitely causes the body to use more muscles and expend greater energy as it is hard to get into one consistent groove.

Because of the uneven shape and nature of the sandbag, your core will be constantly challenged. Every exercise is an ab exercise when you use sandbags.

Another benefit of sandbag training is increasing grip strength. This is especially useful because most sports and daily activities can benefit from a stronger grip.

The sandbag is also an extremely versatile piece of equipment. They can be used for any movement that you can think of from common gym exercises like squats, clean & jerks, to jogging, climbing, dragging, and throwing.
